The club minor team played the Cavan champions Lavey-Castlerahan in the St Paul’s Ulster Minor Championship on Saturday 1st December and had to dig deep to come out on top winning 2-10 to 2-9.
Ardboe got off to a blistering start with Michael Cassidy finding the net twice in the early stages of the first half and Michael Lynn, Michael Cassidy and David Mulgrew all hitting first half points. Lavey-Castlerahan slowly began to come into the game and despite the best efforts of Conor Quinn in goal they managed to claw back a goal and tag on three points to leave the score 2-3 to 1-3 in favour of Ardboe at half time.
The second half was a pulsating affair, Lavey-Castlerahan dominated the opening exchanges and squeezed ahead on a couple of occasions but Ardboe were not to be denied. Points from David Mulgrew, Michael Cassidy, Aidan O’Neill and Peter O’Neill saw Ardboe draw level at different stages with Michael Lynn stepping up to hit the winning point approaching full time.
They have qualified for the semi final which is fixed for boxing day.
