Sporting their new Jerseys, Ardboe fell to a late goal blitz by Donaghmore on Saturday evening in the second round of the league.

On Saturday evening the senior league continued with Ardboe travelling to Donaghmore in search of a full two points and their first away win, but it was two points that the Rossa were defeated by when Donaghmore hit a late goal blitz after the Rossas seemed to be taking control of the game. Donaghmore got the perfect star, resulting from Ardboe unable to keep possession and within the first five minutes had rattled up a goal and two points. A frank McGuigan free kick got Ardboe up and running after sum 10 minutes of the half and a second point from McGuigan on his left followed after numerous scoring opportunities were wasted. The first of a few goal chances for the Rossas came when a 45 dropped short from Ronan Campbell but unfortunately Donaghmore were able to work out the ball from the danger area. Frank McGuigan converted a free kick resulting from a scrappy affair and again added another point with his left foot. Donaghmore resulted with their third point and were lucky not to net their second goal and hit two more scores extending their lead further. A great save from the Donaghmore goal keeper denied Gavin Wylie a chance of gaol and the resulting 45 from John McConville dropped short but acting quickly Frank McGuigan easily slotted over. Gavin Wyle got his name on the score board with a greatly judge free kick in the crosswind to keep the pressure on Donaghmore. The opposition registered the last score in a poor first half in which Ardboe’s marking was wasn’t great and if they had taken their chances could have been leading. Half Time: Ardboe 0-5 D’More 1-5.

            In the second half, the game had a bit more life to it with Ardboe finally taking the lead. A minute from the throw in Tommy McGuigan and seconds later Ronan Campbell reduced Donaghmores advantage to 1 point and great work from Gavin Wyle who successfully set up Frank McGuigan brought things level. Eugene Martin gathering up a lot of breaking ball set Tommy McGuigan up on a run to the goals but hauled down And Frank McGuigan converted to put Ardboe in the lead for the first time in the match. John Cummings added to this and again Frank McGuigan put Ardboe three points ups with good work from Ronan McGurk and Ciaran Campbell. At the beginning of the third quarter the match died down again and Donaghmore began to take control hitting two goals within a matter of minutes. John Cummings died respond by netting too but Donaghmore picked off another two scores.
