The seniors on a horrible wet Saturday afternoon travelled
to Edendork to take on Carrickmore in the league and came out one point victors
in the end winning 9 -8. It was a low scoring first half with both sides only
sharing 6 points Ardboe’s coming from Frank McGuigan and Gavin Wylie. To leave
it 3 each at the break. Conditions didn’t get any better in the second half but
Tommy McGuigan and Ciaran Campbell fired over although a Carrickmore goal
brought them back into contentions the Rossas held on to the end. Full Time:
Ardboe0-9 Carrickmore 1-5.
The Under 16’s bounced back from their recent disappointing
championship defeat by Omagh to also secure a 1 point victory over Dromore and
were also playing their first match at Michael Coney Park since the redevelopment. Again like the senior match conditions were
bad and very slippery and much through out the first half it was level pegging
with Gavin Teague and Kyle Coney knocking over points and Mattie Bell finding
the net after a few chances went wayward leaving Ardboe one point up at half
time. Again in the second it was tight Kyle Coney and Gavin Teague picked off
points and Dromore also exchanged points but it seemed When Kyle Coney was let
in to bag Ardboe’s second goal it that the game was in Ardboe’s hands but fair
play to Dromore they never gave up and they soon got a goal of their own but a
point from both Mattie Bell and Gavin Teague kept up the advantage and they
held on for a one point victory by 2-8 to 1-10 when full time was up.
It was also a busy day for all those at the Under 8 Blitz on
Saturday morning when local teams came to compete although the weather let them
down well down to the all the young players involved and all those team that
came and supported and also helped out.
As many people know the club plans to hold a gala dinner in
celebration of our 60 year history in the Tullyglass hotel on Saturday 24th
February, plans for it already are in full swing and more detailed information
will be available shortly. This
prestigious event will help raise funds for our new flood lights and of course
the development of our new pitches which are now near completion. Already a
large number of tables have been purchased and anyone still wishing to obtain a
table or a single seat please contact on the gala Sub-committee. Accommodation
on the night of the event is also very limited – anyone wishing to enquire
about accommodation are asked to contact one of the committee above.
Thanks to Edendork for the use of their field on Saturday.
