The Senior team got their season off to the best possible start with a seven point victory over Aghyaran on Sunday
Six points from Frank McGuigan lead Ardboe to victory against Aghyaran in the opening league game of the season at Michael Coney Park on Sunday, with the Rossa's running out eventual winners on a 1-12 to 0-08 scoreline.
Aghyaran opened the game in a bright fashion and raced into a 0-02 to no score lead early on. Ardboe eventually got going and a Tommy McGuigan goal after 8 minutes got the scoreboard rolling. Two Frank McGuigan free's extended the lead but Aghyaran kept in touch with a free kick of their own. Mattie Brady was the next man on the scoresheet for the Rossa's and Gavin Teague followed with two fine scores of his own to extend the Ardboe lead heading towards half time. Aghyaran did manage to narrow the gap before half time, leaving the scoreline 1-05 to 0-05 at the break.
The second half got off to a slow start but Ardboe extended their lead through two more Frank McGuigan points. Aghyaran refused to lie down though, and the kept themselves in touch with a couple of well worked scores. However, Ardboe turned the screw mid-way through the half and impressively kicked for hom. Shea Forbes, Mattie Brady and Tommy McGuigan all converted excellent points to seal the victory, ensuring Ardboe would take both points on offer.
