Ardboe defeated westeners Aygharan in the preliminary round of the WJ Dolan senior championship and put behind them the defeat at the hands of the Moy this time last year. A great second half performance all round finally got Ardboe on top with Gavin Wylie and Ciaran Campbell netting twice although there was a few goal scares but some great scors sealed it for the Rossa with 10 points between the teams on the score board.
Aygharan got out of the blocks the quickest slotting over a free kick within seconds of the throw in. From the Kick out Ardboe managed to steal a foul and Gavin Wylie drew things level with an excellent free kick also. An off the ball foul earned Ardboe another scoring chance that Frank McGuigan duly converted giving the Rossas the lead with little under 10 mins played. Again Aygharan levelled things up with a free kick and took the lead again with a point from play after Ardboe losing the ball in defence. Gavin Wylie added his second point from a free kick again while Aygharan hit over another point from play and seemed to have settled in well. The Rossas were playing a very fast game and a great score from Frank McGuigan brought things level once again with a few chances also put wide shortly after could have put them back in the lead but a long range effort from John McConville left it 4 points to 3. Frank McGuigan then fisted over Ardboe last score of he half while Aygharan kept in touch but Ardboe been the happier going in at half time with a point up on the scoreboard.
