The Reserves opened their League campaign with victory over Aghyaran on Sunday
The Reserves produced a solid display to see off Aghyaran in the first league fixture of the year at Michael Coney Park on Sunday, winning on a scoreline of 2-07 to 1-04.
Playing against a strong breeze in the first half, Ardboe opened brightly with scores from Daniel Wylie and Joe Coyle. Aghyaran opened their account with a pointed free minutes later, but Ardboe regained the lead with Joe Coyle landing another couple of points. The first goal of the game came mid-way through the half when Stephen Graham raced clear and his shot found the top corner of the net to open up a six point lead. However, Aghyaran kept in touch when they goaled a penalty at the end of the half to leave the score 1-04 to 1-01 at the break.
Aghyaran started the second half strongly with a couple of points to narrow the gap to the minimum, but Ardboe responded well – Nishy O'Neill landing two fine points to open up the lead again. And the game was put beyond doubt with 15 minutes remaining when Ronan Campbell blasted a penalty to the net after Sean Hagan had been fouled. With a comfortable lead Ardboe saw out the remainer of the game and with both side swapping late points, Ardboe ran out six point winners.
