The Tyrone G.A.C has confirmed that the ten senior and intermediate club championship games planned for next weekend have been cancelled and will be refixed for a later date.
The decision to postpone the eight second round ties in the W J Dolan senior championship, along with the opening two games in the intermediate competition, comes directly in the wake of Tyrone’s six-point Ulster championship defeat at the hands of Derry. The ten matches were all going to involve at least one member of the Tyrone squad.
A number of Tyrone personnel were unable to start the game in Healy Park on Sunday as a result of injuries sustained in club fixtures over the last few weeks, including the 2005 footballer of the year Stephen O’Neill. Those injuries took their toll on the All-Ireland champions who made a disappointing exit from the Ulster championship.
The Red Hands are due to play again in round one of the qualifiers on Saturday 17th June and the Tyrone management have instructed that their players will not take part in any club fixtures prior to that date.
With the club championship programme consequently placed on hold, a full round of All-County league matches will now be staged on Sunday 4th June without any of the county panellists.
The intermediate and junior championships will commence on Friday 9th June, with none of the clubs involved on that weekend having county players within their ranks.
